The Alabama Wheelchair Tennis team delivered an impressive showing this past weekend at the ITA Wheelchair National Championship Qualifier and Division B and C National Championships, held October 24–25 at the Parker-Hahn Tennis Facility.
The Tide opened strong on Friday, going 3–0 in singles play with victories from
Max Barbier,
Martha Harris, and
Francesco Felici. Francesco dominated his match 6–0, 6–0, while Harris fought through a close first set to win 6-0, 7-6, and Max closed out with a tight 6–4, 7–5 finish. Their strong performances propelled Alabama to early wins over Arizona, Michigan, and Houston.
As the tournament continued, the Tide maintained their momentum.
Francesco Felici advanced to the semifinal in the A Division,
Martha Harris reached the A Quarterfinal before falling in a hard-fought match to Michigan, and
Max Barbier earned a spot in the B Division final.
On Saturday, Francesco defeated Michigan's Caiden Baxter 6–0, 6–1 to reach the A Division final. Though the championship match was called a draw due to weather conditions, Felici officially qualified for the ITA Wheelchair Singles National Championship, where he will travel to Lake Nona, Florida on November 23–24 to defend his national title from last season.
Meanwhile, Senior
Max Barbier capped off his stellar weekend by capturing the ITA B Individual National Championship, defeating Auburn's Evan Heller 6–1, 2–6, (10–6) in a thrilling tiebreak victory.
The Tide's strong performances this weekend demonstrate the program's depth, competitiveness, and continued success on the national stage.
