Head Coach Ryan Hynes Post Game Comments
The girls and I were chomping at the bit to play some games. We were supposed to have a tournament a couple weeks ago, but that tournament was canceled. We have been really getting after it in practice and I think we were at the point where we were just dying to play some actual games. Going into the tournament I was feeling really good about our mindset, we had a great couple weeks of practice and we had a great energy. Our first game against Illinois we got off to a slow start. At one point we were down by as many as fourteen. We made a couple halftime adjustments to try and speed the game up. We really found our defensive groove in the second half and were able to come back for a huge will against a really good Illinois team. It was great to see us make some great in-game adjustments and really win that game defensively, even though we weren't having our best shooting game. After that we really did not have much time to rest; we had a back to back with our next game being against the home team, UTA. We really relied on our bench this game to help fuel the court with some energy. The bench all weekend was so loud and really helped us get through a tough back to back schedule. We were finally able to pull away in the second half and finish the weekend 2-0. It was a great start to our second semester game schedule. I am proud of the way that the team fought, always kept our composure, and played for their teammates all weekend. Still have a lot of work to do before nationals gets here, but I like the direction that we are going. Roll Tide!
