Liam Smith Honored with the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award

Alabama Adapted Athletics is proud to celebrate Liam Smith, recipient of the prestigious Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award.

The Sullivan Award honors one graduating student and one non-student each year who demonstrate the highest standards of scholarship, leadership, and service. It recognizes the practical application of noble ideals and celebrates individuals whose character and commitment to serving others truly stand out.

Scholarship, leadership, and service are not just words to Liam Smith, they are values he lives out every single day.

A member of the Randall Research Scholars Program, Liam is a double major in Management Information Systems and Mathematics. He is also pursuing a master's degree in Applied Statistics, all while maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA. His academic excellence alone would be remarkable, but Liam's impact reaches far beyond the classroom.

For the past four years, Liam has served as the lead at the scorer's table for Alabama Adapted Athletics' wheelchair basketball games. In a role that requires precision, focus, and deep understanding of international classification systems, Liam ensures every game is administered accurately and professionally. His leadership has brought consistency and confidence to our game operations.

True to his innovative spirit, Liam identified a need for a more efficient way to track lineups and catch classification violations in real time. He developed a system that not only strengthened our home operations but was also used at multiple national tournaments, a testament to both his technical ability and his commitment to improving the sport.

His mentors often say that wherever Liam goes, leadership follows. That statement rings true in every space he enters. Beyond Adapted Athletics, he shares his DJ talents with Alabama Softball, bringing energy and excitement to game days. He also serves as a statistician and public address announcer at Stillman College, roles he takes on with the same enthusiasm and professionalism.

While his schedule may seem overwhelming to most, Liam carries it with humility and joy. He believes deeply in paying his experiences forward and using his gifts to serve others.

The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award is rooted in excellence of character and service to humanity, and Liam Smith embodies both. We are incredibly grateful for his leadership, his innovation, and the countless hours he has poured into Alabama Adapted Athletics.

Congratulations, Liam. Your impact on our program and our community will last far beyond your time here.
